Immagine molto venerata, modellata per il Santuario di S. Maria delle Macchie, fu trasferita nella sede attuale per facilitarne il culto nel 1790 e affidata alla Confraternita di S. Giuseppe che ne cura il culto e le celebrazioni.  Nella stessa chiesa è conservata una Natività attribuita ad A. De Magistris (affresco datato 1530). ll Santuario di S. Maria delle Grazie o S. Maria delle Macchie, così nominato per la sua collocazione in ambiente boschivo, non lontano da Gagliole, risale al XIII secolo. La festa del Crocifisso si tiene ogni anno dal giorno dell'Ascensione alla domenica successiva.

Very venerated image, moulded for the Sanctuary of St. Mary of the Woods (Santuario di S. Maria delle Macchie); it was moved to the present seat in 1790 to make the worship easier and was entrusted to the Confraternity of St. Joseph that cares for the worship and the celebrations. The same church houses a Nativity attributed to A. De Magistris (fresco dated 1530). The Sanctuary of St. Mary of the Woods, so called for its position among tracts of woodland, not far from Gagliole, dates back to the 13th century.
