Fabriano (Italy): "The Mazzolini Giuseppucci Pharmacy"
The history

This pharmacy was first owned by Ermogaste Mazzolini (Fabriano, 1849-1899) who in 1894 commissioned Perugia carver Adolfo Ricci (Perugia, 1834-Fabriano, 1904) to create the maple and ebony wooden panelling that entirely covers the walls and ceiling.

Adolfo Ricci first came to Fabriano in 1892, at the age of 58. He was a graduate of Perugia's Academy of Fine Arts and worked in both Umbria and Rome, where he also taught carving at the School of Art and

Trades that was a part of the San Michele Institute.
Ricci was also a great patriot who fought to defend first the Republic of Rome and then Perugia, after the uprisings that signified the end of papal rule in these areas.

Even after the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy, he continued to remain faithful to his republican ideals. Ricci was awarded the title of Academic of Merit from the Academy of Fine Arts of Perugia, and he was also a member of the Academv of Fine Arts of Brussels. As well as his manv other awards, mention should go to the silver medal from the Turin National Exhibition, the gold medal from the General Exhibition of Umbria and the 1st degree silver medal from the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1900.

The Pharmacy has been declared a listed building by the Ministry for Cultural and Environmental Heritage, since it "is of exceptional artistic and historical interest, and constitutes an important and unique example of the way in which Neo-Gothic art spread through central Italy".
