Fabriano (Italy): "The Mazzolini Giuseppucci Pharmacy"
Wooden decor

This wooden decor is an extraordinary example of central Italian Neo-Gothic art. Ricci has included some of the more distinctive models of carved wooden panelling from his native city, starting with the 15th -century Gothic work of art, the Audience Chamber of the Collegio della Mercanzia. The types of wood used for the walls and ceiling of the pharmacy are

similar, as are some of the characteristic, decorative features that are repeated in series; for example, the lobed mullion windows alternated with spiral columns, and the tri-and quadrilobate panels. The rare finesse and excellent technical quality of the carving are what give this work its highly
effective pure Gothic style.
It has
heen further enriched
by features drawn from Neo-Renaissance culture and in particular, from the work of Michelangelo.

In fact, the memory of Michelangelo was particularly strong at the Academy of Fine Arts of Perugia, and the Academy's galleries contained the artist's chalk moulds for the Medici tombs.
